Anchal Kumar: Model Extraordinaire

Anchal KumarOn love, jealousy and fashion...

Anchal KumarEight years is a long time in any industry and in the Fashion industry it can add up to decades if you're one of India's top super-models. Anchal Kumar can boast of working with the elite in the Fashion industry and has completed countless television ads, and numerous runway shows. The youngest of four girls, Anchal grew up in a comfortable upper middle class life-style in upscale Mumbai.

Upon first meeting she re-defines one's epitome of beauty as she displays a keen intellectual acumen, a clean spirit and a humorous joie de vivre. Shaaditimes caught up with the model in between her hectic schedule following a whirlwind of Fashion shows at LFW in Mumbai last week, and a stint in Madhur Bandharkar's magnum opus ''Fashion''.

Anchal loves life, love, and the love of life.

On love...
''Basically it is a commitment of trust and unconditional respect towards the other. If one feels the same at home as you do when you're one with The One, then no individual or individuals can divide you and your love.''

On lust...
An actual physical attraction of bodies, souls and hearts. At first glance - a simple infatuation.

On envy...
Is different in each individual's vocabulary, and is subject to interpretation as each individual looks at both sides of envy. Envy can bring out the best in you and can also be one's greatest downfall as it can eat away at your emotions if you're always looking over the fence to see where the grass is greener.

On jealousy...
Yes, it does exist everywhere especially for people vying for attention. It can exist between friends, colleagues... it depends on you on how you decide to react or not to react to the situation. It's in every part of this world and something we all have to live with.

On 'Fashion' the movie. What's it like to step off the ramp onto the big screen?
"It was wonderful to work in such a brilliant movie as Fashion especially with Priyanka (Chopra). We were working together after many years as we both started our modelling careers around the same time," she remembers. And adds, "Priyanka was really sweet. She is still down to earth and hasn't changed in any way. She met me well."

On a model's view of a woman's beauty. Is it more than skin deep?
According to Anchal, "Beauty is as individual as the one that is trying to find, notice, accept, or appreciate another's beauty." She observes, "I think there is a stereo-type given to models which isn't accurate. Models are people and usually come from good backgrounds. I think because the career is short-lived, glamorous and lucrative, people forget that many models are educated and intelligent in their own way."

She continues, "Beauty can not be assessed according to just physical traits... like whether you have long hair, or are fair, or have a luscious body. All of these do add up to the oomph quotient but do not necessarily add up to that emotional quotient which is just as important in the formula for beauty," believes Anchal.

She concludes, "I think even the time you're born is important. I grew up in the world of computers and my outlook on life is totally different from my mother's who just had a typewriter. Things are perhaps easier for someone of my generation, but paradoxically there are different types of challenges. I think there is a different assessment of success today as opposed to previous generations. You can be an artist and be intelligent. You don't need to be a rocket scientist," she laughs. "Thus you can be tall, thin, beautiful, and intelligent. I believe a woman can represent all things."

On physical beauty. Anchal's idea of a perfect woman?
"Physically, I think body type really isn't that important. I do believe having a clear complexion is important. A woman that needs no make-up to me is appreciated. Also I believe a good personality in knowing how to carry yourself with confidence and poise is equally important in all areas of your life."

Fav. romantic movie...
Bollywood: Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander
Hollywood: P.S. I love you

Fav. vacation...
Mauritus

Fav. Pick up Line...
Can't think of one

Fav. Day...
Walking on the beach in Mauritius. Spending the day in my space enjoying drinks and getting a nice sun-tan.

Fav. Restaurant...
Wasabi, Taj, Mumbai and Kao in NY

Fav. Exercise...
Swimming. I love sports... but due to a hectic schedule only find time to swim. Also I love the sea. I also enjoy yoga and the overall sense of well-being that one hour gives me each day. Going to the Gym is claustrophobic. I enjoy the fresh air. I think there is nothing like ending your day with a brisk walk in the Park.

Fav. Romantic Book...
Gone with the Wind

Fav. Bollywood Hero...
Hrithik Roshan

Fav. Hollywood Hero...
Keanu Reeves

Fav. Bollywood Star...
Priyanka Chopra

Anchal also believes that in any career one has to have one's head firmly pressed on one's shoulders. "You see a lot of girls with attitude," she observes. "And there is a difference between confidence and arrogance. I think a woman has to speak well, but she should also not be over-confident. In modelling sometimes being shy or introverted can be confused for being snooty." She clarifies, "Arrogance is not reserved to just any one single industry."

What is most important...?
Being kind and caring

A model she admires...
Jesse Randhawa because she is kind and caring and has a wonderful confidence and poise. She is good looking, well-dressed and she gets along with all around her.

On emotion and modelling...
Well, a woman can have all the ingredients of success, but the true mettle of a woman is how she crumbles under pressure. This is something they don't teach you about. How to handle real life situations? You really don't know until you're living through the moment how difficult life can be and whether you succumb to outside influences or pull along. A woman of substance isn't someone who seems to be in the know; she is the one that gets along despite all the knowing.

On spontaneity...
To me spontaneity and spirituality go hand-in-hand. They aren't some thing to be displayed or paraded or showed off. People that are spiritual tend to be gentle and you can see it in their aura. They bring a peace of mind and tend to have others gravitate towards them.

India's Eligible Royals: Nexus of Past and Present

India's Eligible Royals: Nexus of Past and PresentA royal glimpse of the eligible Royals of GenX.

Each era and each country has its nobles. India's historical tapestry weaves an ebullience of grandeur, which has survived through the ages despite political turmoil, economic strife and geographical change.

The mantle of royalty has changed many a hand since the first Indian Royals made claim to land and position in the Indus Valley circa 3000 BC. Yet, the mystique, tradition and culture of India's Raj and royal courts lives on not only in history books, but also in social arts, literature, architecture, and politics.

We continue to be fascinated even today as India's royal progeny come of age. As with royalty worldwide through the different periods Indian royals aren't any different and aren't exempt to gossip, internal clash, disputes, deception and slander.

The GenX Royals have paved their own path oblivious of age-old custom as they make their own place in today's world. These royals have entered numerous fields from politics, entertainment, and fashion. Some have ancestors with lost kingdoms, others with lost thrones. Some have entered industry, and others politics. Some have thrived while others have fought to survive. And with all changes, as the old guard gives way to new, some royalty tarnishes and other shimmers and yet another more luminous sets a new definition for the word "royal" in 2008.

Shaaditimes gives a royal glimpse of the eligible Royals of GenX. Here's a look at the real and reel royals of India today.

Neena Gupta's Wedding Bash

Neena Gupta's Wedding BashNeena Gupta tied the knot on July 15 in the US with Vivek Mehra. View pics.

This banno rani may have become sayani a bit late in life, but one has to admire her courage. Neena Gupta tied the knot on July 15 in the US with Vivek Mehra. Vivek is a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Recently, the couple hosted an impromptu post-wedding bash for all their close family and friends in Mumbai at the Sahara Star. The bash was well attended by many film and TV celebrities who came in to wish the couple well.

Of course, Neena's close friends Soni Razdan, Kalpana Lajmi and Ila Arun were very much present to celebrate their friend's new love and life. Ila Arun sang to everyone's delight as Soni and Kalpana danced in gay abandon as only true friends can.

Neena was heard saying, ''I know the mehendi and sangeet ceremonies happen before the wedding. I also know I'm past the age of such frolic and fun. But what to do? All my friends are young at heart, and so am I. They all wanted to be part of my marriage even if it was belatedly.''

The actress regrets the fact that her loved ones couldn't attend her 'shaadi' in the US.

'My friends felt so left out. I feel bad about that. That's why I'm happy I went through the sangeet and mehendi ceremonies like in a proper wedding. Never mind if it happened in the reverse order. The important thing is to enjoy what you do in life. And my friends had a ball on Saturday,' Neena said.

Added Kalpana, "Neena is courageous to have grabbed the chance to find domestic bliss at this age. That evening we all celebrated the vibrancy of love and marriage in our middle age. But then shared joy like this cuts across all barriers."

Neena's daughter Masaba looked ravishing like her mother. Since Neena and Vivek refused to pose for the cameras it was left to Masaba to pacify the shutterbugs and pose away she did!

Sanjay Kapoor Produces "Its My Life"

Sanjay Kapoor Produces ''Its My Life''Shaaditimes gets a glimpse of one and only, amiable, intelligent - Sanjay Kapoor.

Sanjay Kapoor Produces “Its My Life”Shaaditimes gets a glimpse of his life, his wife and his work.

He says the most interesting person he's ever met is Shah Rukh Khan. So it's logical to learn that Shah Rukh and he are close buddies. He was once linked with Bollywood glam gals Tabu and Sushmita Sen.

''I think when you're young you need to be in a relationship. And mostly when you're young you don't think about marriage. I think you marry when everything falls into place,'' he laughs. His favourite destination after travelling India is London. He is the one and only, amiable, intelligent and with a subtle humour - Sanjay Kapoor.

His claim to fame is many, but the films that have lingered in our minds are Prem (with Bollywood hearthrob Tabu) and the super hit Raja which catapulted him to stardom (with superstar Madhuri Dixit).

Currently enjoying his new avatar as a producer, the movie, ''Its My Life'' (directed by Anees Bazmee) has taken over Sanjay's life and is under production. ''The story is about a father and son relationship,'' says Sanjay. ''I found the script to be honest. Something not just larger than life. It depicts a real life situation between an over-possessive father and son. Their conflict and their ability to give in.''

The film is based on a Tamil and Telegu film ''Bommarillu'' where a son wants to achieve his life's goals but is always dissuaded by his father. Sanjay shrugs off any suggestion of similarity in real life. So there is no ''reel'' life drama spilling off the screen. Sanjay has a wonderful relationship with his family especially his oldest brother whom he looks to for guidance and with respect.

The youngest of three brothers, Sanjay is not new to the glaring and sometimes critical spotlight of Bollywood. His eldest brother Boney is a successful Producer married to 80's superstar Sridevi and his older brother Anil Kapoor one of the infamous nineties hunks along with Jackie Shroff, Ajay Devgan and Sanjay Dutt.

Is it difficult to create your own persona as the youngest of three brothers?
"Yes and no. On one side it's difficult when people compare you to someone or expect you to have the same type of talent. In contrast, I consider myself fortunate to be Sanjay Kapoor. I am proud of my achievements both as an actor and now as a producer. I have received much critical claim for many of my films, and was considered a successful star following the release of Raja for sometime." He was distinguished for his performance as a villain to Esha Deol in Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe and playing a terrorist in the film Qayamat: City Under Threat.

Married to Australian import Jewellery Designer and one time model Maheep Sandhu they are proud parents of two young children. He met Maheep in Delhi and as he tells us it was love at first sight. "I was floored by her beauty, her carriage and her confidence at first. Later and till now I love her for her kindness and for being a wonderful mother to our children Shania and Jahann," he says.

Are Indian girls from abroad more Indian?
"Well, I cannot speak for all Indians, but I must say Maheep is traditional by nature. Just before meeting her I had spent a great deal of time in Vancouver during the shooting of Mohabbat. There were many songs and just as many extras on the set. There was a nice camaraderie, and I found Indians abroad to be sentimental about their memories of our culture and country," he reminisces.

His career path has been non-linear and there have been patches of disillusionment he admits. "I try not to remember the slow days. I think all actors go through this at some point in their careers. There are highs and lows," he believes.

What keeps him going?
"I think your belief in yourself, your work, and also family and friends. Both Maheep and I are lucky to have a large circle of friends." According to Sanjay, when he's not on the film set or heading the production of his film, both he and Maheep enjoy spending time with friends. Their endless list includes Bollywood Royalty Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri and Producer Karan Johar.

How does he rate his success?
"That's an interesting question because there are one billion people in this country and many of them would love to be in my shoes. And if you look at that then I feel successful," he jokes. And then more seriously, "I believe it starts by selecting good movies, then getting a good team of collective individuals. The rest is luck and the acceptance of your audience because ultimately they decide if you're a star or not."

We can look forward to seeing Sanjay in Zoya Akhtar's "Luck by Chance" with Farhan Akthar. Sanjay will also be seen in post-production movies Beach, Kab Takk, Tumhare Liye, Hera Pheri 4 and Kayanaat.

Jesse Randhawa: Danseuse, Gourmet and Humanist

Jesse RandhawaIndia's Supermodel talks to Shaaditimes on life, love, and...

India's Supermodel talks to Shaaditimes on life, love, and dance.

Jesse Randhawa wouldn't mind dating Jet Li although she's seeing Bollywood choreographer Sandip Sopparkar and both are good-looking, amazing martial arts experts, and wonderful human-beings. Both Jesse and Sandip (a professional Latin American dancer) are famous for their dance sizzle and panache and will launch pop icon Madonna's big 50-birthday party with a waltz.

It is believed that the party will open with their performance at an exclusive country estate in England. Hailed as the event of the year, the guest list includes international luminaries and movers and shakers including: Gwyneth Paltrow, Stella McCarney, Britney Spears and Justin Timerlake. Also invited are the Maharaja of Jaipur and the Royal Family of Neemrana Palace and officials of the Malawian government.

If not salsa it's films and modeling for one of India's most successful supermodels and Bollywood actress. Described by designers as the synthesis of beauty, brains and passion, she stands at a statuesque and willowy 5 ft 10 inches in height and epitomizes the look of a generation of Indian woman. Considered a style icon amongst her contemporaries, fashionistas, divas and young Indian girls throughout India, she exudes an extraordinary mix of modern and classism. Jesse was one of the first models to crop her hair to the nape along with Ruby Bhatia in the early 90's.

This Femina Miss India 94' alumnus and 2nd runner-up in the Ford Supermodel India 1994 Pageant has seen her career graph steadily climb in the past decade. After notching an enviable and admirable 5th place in one of the most glorious pageants in Femina history where today's Bollywood superstars, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan placed second to Sushmita Sen (later Miss Universe 94'), Jesse has definitely created her own style and aura. She has just completed Anurag Kashyap's forthcoming film Gulal, and is adding finishing touches to a political thriller Chot.

Shaaditimes caught up with star during her hectic schedule as she prepares for the Madonna party and a Manish Malhotra fashion show.

Did she know then she would rule India's ramp for over decade?

"No, I really didn't think I would survive so long," she says and clarifies, "I don't think its just physical beauty though it is an important part of modeling. A top model also has to be alert, current and intelligent," she believes. A Jaipuri punjaban, Jesse, studied at the Maharani Gayatri Devi College in Jaipur where she obtained a degree in Arts.

According to Jesse her parents have been her most vocal supporters.
"My father is no more and was once in the Navy and my mother stays with me in Mumbai." Modeling to her is more than work. "It absorbs me and challenges me to be my best." A humanist Jesse can be seen as the force behind serious causes such as cruelty to animals. She also enjoys being a gourmet. "I just made besan ke ladoos today," she says. On her down time when she's not sashaying down the ramp she enjoys music. "I am musical. I tried playing the flute and I love to dance."

A salsa enthusiast in large part to choreographer Sandip Sopparkar, Jesse says, "It's a discipline which allows you to create and to keep fit. I love any type of dancing and enjoyed dancing at raves as a teenager."

What does she love the most about Sandip?
"As a teacher he listens to you. He makes you pay attention to your posture and always listens to your point of view." She adds, "His most important quality is his ability to forget and forgive. He is good to most everyone in his life."

Has she been compared to anyone in the industry or in Hollywood?
"I have been compared to Halle Berry," she laughs. "Although I don't believe there is a resemblance. I don't like to admire or copy anyone. I think it's better to be yourself. Also I think it's the hair. I cut my locks on the recommendation of Fashion Designer Jatin Kochar. It was during Femina Miss India (1994) and he suggested it would give me a totally different look and a chance to get noticed. And I think it worked."

Is her physique God's gift?
"I am naturally tall and lean though I believe everyone has to take care of their metabolism. My heredity allows me not to have to worry so much about consuming calories, but I feel one needs to exercise to stay toned and fit. I think it's most important for each woman to understand her own body and try to optimize her physique to look her best."

Her close friends include fellow models, Sheetal Mallar and Kiran Rao. "We enjoy traveling together." They have enjoyed treks in the forests and Kashmir. Her favorite designer is Gavin Miguel. "I love his gowns and wear them when I dance." Also on the list are awarding winning designers Wendell Roddericks and Rohit Verma. "They have simple and flowing cuts and shapes in their garments." Jesse will be wearing Wendell Roddericks at the ritzy Madonna celebration.

Her close friend: Sister Sadhika.

Most interesting person in her life: Farhan Akhtar's wife Adhuna. "I love the way she deals with people. She is very inspiring."

Best vacation: Kashmir.

Best moment: There are so many. I think my first dance show.

In Black & White With Rishi Rehan

Rishi Rehan"I don't think men feel comfortable with someone who is not comfortable with herself."

Rishi RehanPahalaj Nihalani launched the career of two newcomers Rishi Rehan and Avantikaa in his movie Kushboo recently.

From the age of 8 Rishi Rehan knew he wanted to be an actor. ''I'm a die-hard Amitabh Bachchan fan. For me there's nothing else. Acting is a part of me. I am meant to be here and in the industry and hopefully reach stardom,'' he says. ''If you believe in something passionately and you really want it then it can come true.''
Rishi loves old time movies and legendary heroes Shammi Kapoor and Sanjeev Kumar.

Shaaditimes gets the Black and White on Rishi Rehan. No shades of grey here.

My Favourite...

Film
''Khilona'' with Sanjeev Kumar. He was a versatile actor. I want to be not just a romantic hero, but would like to play all types of characters.

Singer
Sonu Nigam. Although there is a lot of new talent I admire I am a Sonu Nigam fan.

Director
It would have to be Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He has his own individual sense of cinema and his own way of making cinema meaningful.

I...

Love
Bollywood

Hate
Pretentious people

Fear
Even a single day sitting at home without work. If given the opportunity I would work 365 days in the year. Doing nothing drives me crazy.

Dream
Of success in my career and in living

First...

Crush
When I was twelve there was a sweet girl in my school and I admired her from a distance.

Date
It was the same girl. We went for a movie.

Proposal
Not sure... it might have been the same girl.

Rejection
I think it was her. At that time I wasn't working out and I was scrawny so I think she said no because I didn't fit her image of a hunk. (laughs)

Would he try asking her out again?
No I think one rejection is enough (he jokes). Seriously I have changed. When I seriously decided to pursue acting from my body image to my mental prowess I have had to work on the overall package. I spend all my free time at martial arts and dance classes in addition to going to the Gym.

Most Romantic...

Film
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. I think it was a sweet love story and at its release Aditya Chopra had really pioneered the formula for making a romantic-comedy that was applicable to a generation of youngsters.

Book
I don't read romantic books. I like biographies and finished a book on Sidney Poiter, "Measure of a Man" and I am currently reading "The Key" inspired by Joe Whitall.

Gift
My Dad bought me a car.

Destination
I love beaches... it would have to be somewhere with water like Mauritius or Bali.

Etc...

Turn-On
Beauty and brains. I feel a woman should have both... also I love a fragrance that is summery and fresh.

Turn-Off
Again, I would have to say someone that is not being herself and is trying to impress me. I think if a woman has the confidence to be herself then she will find the right man in her life even if it's not me. I don't think men feel comfortable with someone who is not comfortable with herself.

Fitness mantra
At least five times a week I workout. I love water sports - especially rafting.

Can you cook?
I love food... but no I can't cook. If you know an unpretentious girl that smells good and she's an epicurean tell her to write to me.

Softness Behind The Power: Neelam Bose Roy

Softness Behind The Power: Neelam Bose RoyNeelam Roy talks about motherhood, children and being Ronit's wife for five years.

Neelam With RonitNeelam Bose Roy, actress, mother of two, and wife to India's most popular television actor Ronit Roy really defines the belief: Softness is the force behind the power.

A tall lithesome willowy woman, her delicate demeanour in no way represents her strength of character, solid heart, and deep intellect. Shaaditimes caught up with Neelam in Mumbai recently to find out if motherhood, children and being Ronit's wife for five years has changed their lives and their love.

Ronit, for you all out of the Bollywood ghup shup, married the former model and television actress in a private and pious ceremony on December 25, 2003. Theirs wasn't a whirlwind romance as they had known each other for three years prior to their marriage and had courted with the dream to eventually marry one day.

Neelam With Ronit And FamilyThey have two daughters named Aadore and Agastya who Neelam tells us consume most of her time. ''My life revolves around my children and Ronit,'' says Neelam. She clarifies, ''I am still in love with my man, my marriage and my relationship. I believe we have weathered some ups and downs, and life has been hectic, but it's also been generally good,'' she laughs.

At first glance Neelam appears glamorous and model-like, but as the interview progresses she comes across as a down-to-earth, no nonsense type of woman that lifts the idea of wife, mother and lover to her husband to a status of ''domestic engineer''.

She shrugs off the suggestion, ''Yes, both Ronit and I are very disciplined individuals though we may come across as playful,'' she admits. ''We lead extremely hectic lives under the scrutiny of the media which can be enjoyable and difficult both at the same time,'' she says and adds, ''I am the one that looks after our private space, our alone time. We don't get much time to spend together so we don't ignore a word we speak.

We appreciate each other and fight also.'' She continues, "Our private life isn't the glamorous life that one would imagines from a Bollywood couple. I make him a quick breakfast, and if he spends a half hour with me I am thrilled to be able to share a meal together. At night we light a candle during dinner after I have put the children to bed and try to re-create the romance in our lives."

Is Ronit a good father? "Ronit is wonderful with the children. I believe he is the best human on earth."

Neelam With RonitAnd what does he have to say? "Neelam is the best woman, best mother, best person." Neelam gently reproaches him, "Its true. Flattery gets you everywhere."

What are the qualities she best admires in him? After mulling this for a while she declares without hesitation, "He's a good listener. Even nonsense things that I gibber off to him he listens to. And when I think he's really not listening he really is. I just wish we could spend more time with each other."

What is the chemistry they share? Can she describe it? Is it possible? According to Neelam, her upbringing has played an important role as is his. Neelam hails from an upper middle-class background. "We are three sisters, and we are an orthodox Gujarati family and the only advice my mother told me when I was younger was to find a career, whatever I wanted to do, but most importantly the most important decision of my life was to find a good man. And what she meant by that was not someone that was too monied, although money is important, but someone that would care and look after me and most importantly loves me more than I love him." She stops and then divulges, "Though I think as women, we tend to love our husbands unconditionally."

What if she heard murmurings of another woman especially since Ronit is devilishly handsome, and extremely charming? She pauses for a moment, "I hope and pray the same emotion should be inside me as I feel today. I am committed to my husband. My inner knowing says that day will not happen. Ronit will not disappoint me."

On a lighter note, what is the best day she has cherished with Ronit? "I think it was a holiday to Venice. We both were on the Gondola and Ronit started to serenade me with Hindi songs amidst the sonnets of the violinist."

She continues, "Each day we squeeze time to be together. When he's not filming we like to spend time with the children, having a quiet dinner, or just reading and holding hands. When he is filming I make it a point to send him a tiffin for his mid-day break each day. I instigate our off time. If I know he has a couple of days break coming up we plan to slip away even to Lonavala. I think we both need to rejuvenate."

Both Neelam and Ronit believe a healthy spirit starts with the body and they both workout at the Gym. "I believe it's important to workout and if Ronit is working out, I try to do the same. Our mantra is have healthy foods. We enjoy vegetables and pasta, also nice and spicy Maharastrian cuisine. We also try to pray together. He has a wonderful character and I think it's because of his strong belief in God," she says. Currently Ronit can be viewed on the Channel 9X as Bhishma in Balaja's epic Mahabharata.

Favourite restaurant
Spice at the Marriott.

Favourite bedroom line
Sleep well and sweet dreams.

Most memorable moment
The trip before we got married. We went to Goa. I had specially planned this for his birthday. It was a surprise and he had not clue. This is history because it happened almost six years earlier.

Challenges and triumph
His fan following. We love his fans. We need his fans.

On love
Ronit. Love is Ronit and my life is Ronit.

Lust
Definitely Ronit.

Greed
Something that doesn't excite me.

Jealousy
One of the emotions of humans. Though Ronit and I are not of that way. I have never wished I could have a body like someone etc... I admire people and think 'Wow! Fantastic!' but nothing with a bad thought.

Envy
Laugh it off

Nicolo and Dino Morea

Dino MoreaFood and Love At The Crepe Station.

Dino Morea Shakespeare said, ''Music be the food of love; So play on play on.''

Love food. The Greeks believed in it. Hailing back to Socrates and Plato the western civilizations have celebrated their spirit with feasts. ''...there was a shift in how people viewed food. Suddenly eating could be a pleasurable experience, and food was to be consumed with gusto. Food was not just sustenance for the body; it fed the soul as well.''(Popular Renaissance Magazine).

As taste-buds get more refined, Indians are looking west for inspiration at weddings and other social gatherings. One of the newest food fundas garnering a flurry of excitement is the elegant, sumptuous and classic French crepe. Shaaditimes goes to the Crepe Station - one of newest vistas in Mumbai to pique one's palate!

It's an epicurean epiphany. Sweet dreams are made of this.

Imagine.

The monsoons, swooning on the beach, clouds sprinkling rain. Zoom to one of the most happening places in Mumbai. Crepe Station.

Nicolo And Dino Morea A franchise designed and conceptualized by brothers Restaurateur, Nicolo and Bollywood actor Dino Morea. ''The idea was simple,'' says Nicolo. ''We wanted to bring hearty European cuisine to India at affordable prices.''

Crepe Station reputed for its cuisine, splurges on atmosphere. A popular meeting place for young and old, as you enter you're greeted to a rustic Mediterranean fiesta, rhythmic music, a waft of flavored smoke from plumes of hookah. You'll find romantic Lotharios, couples in love, ladies groups, and the elderly. They may be indulging in conversation, a drink or two, but most likely drizzling honey and chocolate on mouth-watering crepes stuffed with a symphony of irresistible fruits, syrups, nuts, cream. "If you can dream it we make it," boasts Nicolo.

A delightful menu filled rich with regional fare from the Rhine to the Riviera; chunks of pasta, grills, salads, topped with tantalizing truffles and crepes representing the best from France, Germany and Italy. This should come as no surprise as owner Nicolo completed twelve years in Hotel Management in Switzerland, and Germany.

Karan,Hrithik And Dino Tall and dignified, Nicolo is fluent in three European languages including Swiss-German. His more famous brother Dino is known to be a regular at the restaurant. "I love eggs for breakfast," divulges Dino and "He loves the Nutella Crepe," chimes in Nicolo. Although it certainly doesn't show on Dino's physique as he's a regular at the Gym. From mixed lineage the brothers' parents are Italian and Indian with the boys being brought up in Bangalore.

According to Nicolo, the Indian wedding is going to Europe. "First it was the industrialists that would serve European cuisine to a refined audience of well-wishers after flying the wedding party to Europe. We've brought Europe to India. And now anyone can re-define their wedding menu. We will create innovation combined with exotic rushes of spices and ingredients that promise to pique your taste-buds," he laughs.

Nicolo recently launched The Crepe Factory. "We are aiming to cater to any occasion especially engagement, weddings, corporate gatherings," says Nicolo. "The menu is in the process of being developed for location gatherings, but our signature crepes, grills and bolognaise sauces will definitely be included."

According to Nicolo the Indian sensibility has changed. The Big Fat Indian Wedding has taken charge! "It's not just a smorgasbord of food. Individuals, especially the bride and groom, are becoming more discerning. The families are looking at themes, taste, and quality of ingredients." Whether you want the flavor of Europe for a while or European contemporary cuisines at your wedding, celebrate with the French crepe extraordinaire!

Shruti Ulfat: Dehradun's Dilwale

Shruti UlfatJuggling motherhood, career, and spouse.

Shruti Ulfat Juggling motherhood, career, and spouse.

''My whole life is enhanced and is more beautiful since the day I became a mother,'' says film star, television actress and anchor - Shruti Ulfat. ''It's a new metaphor changing from girl, to woman and now to mother. I feel my life is complete and has come full circle,'' says the chirpy and talented star. Casually dressed in slacks, t-shirt and walking shoes, Shruti looks the epitome of the girl next door, and certainly not mom of 18 months old son - Ojasya.

On screen, she made her debut in Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan (1999), Raaz (2002), Aetbaar, and Gafla (2006). Her linear career graph piqued on television after co-anchoring Chalti Ka Naam Antakshari with Sachin, playing the buddy in Chalti Ka Naam Gadi followed by Zindagi Badal Sakta Hai Haadsa last year.

''Life has been hectic,'' admits Shruti. ''I divide my days between Dehradun, where my husband Alok is based and Mumbai. Alok has the theatre workshops (Avikal) and theatre company (AUCPA) which occupies him full-time.''

Shruti Ulfat Does she find the distance difficult to deal with?

''No not really. Alok and I share a strong foundation. And Alok has always supported my career unequivocally. Ojasya travels with me when I'm filming on location, and till date he's been superb. Alok is a good father and has taken fatherhood in stride, and because we are out of Dehradun for a couple of weeks each month when we return Alok stays focused only on us. So it's like our courtship days except there are loads of diapers to change,'' she laughs. ''Seriously though, Alok is quieter in the house now due to the baby in the next room. His approach is gentler. He is definitely more loving towards me and Ojasya.''

So how has the love changed?

"Our love has matured and how," she emphasizes. "Our passion towards each other and our work has taken over both of us completely. In Dehradun, we have loads of family and everyone is so neighborly. This is the place both Alok and I return to fine-tune our craft in theatre and arts. We are drenched with our workshops, classes, and productions," she adds.

"Plus, we understand each other's space and mutual interest related to theatre and performing and trust each other completely. I don't think I have yet to say to Alok, ‘You do not love me enough'. It's also where we enjoy nature, time spent with family and all the essentials which life in Mumbai doesn't allow."

"Dehradun is apna ground; it's the place from which both Alok and I hail. We can be ourselves, and there is no question of pretenses. I know this sounds crazy but I can tell from the way Alok looks at me... that we are a couple. He just completes me. Tomorrow if someone said he is having an affair with so and so I just wouldn't believe it.

Shruti Ulfat On motherhood...

"Well I think for a woman being a mother is so important. To be able to give of yourself completely to your children is God's gift."

How does she stay in shape?

"Well, I'm still feeding Ojasya, so I haven't reduced to my usual size yet. I eat healthy foods. I love vegetables and fruit and I don't believe in being a glutton. I also try to get in some yoga and that is usually on the weekends. I think lots of woman start exercising immediately post-pregnancy, and I feel you have to allow your body a period of rest."

"I wanted to give the full Shruti to Ojasya and not do things half-heartedly. He is the most important man in my life today and not to sound crazy or anything, but I see his eyes light up when I'm near. He's so cute especially when we're outside the house or in the garden."

Shruti Ulfat On the show Maa Vaishnu Devi...

"It's an episodic serial. Meaning the Goddess played by Rupa Dutta, and directed by Anwar Khan. Pivotal characters stay the same and as the stories change the actors also change. My series runs for a few weeks and I play the mother of a son who is a devotee of the Goddess. The story is about the relationship of this woman with her family and her son and how her devotion to the Goddess changes her life."

Harman Baweja: "We Stuck Together As A Family!"

Harman BawejaBollywood hottie Harman speaks about Love Story...

Harman's easy laugh and warm demeanor are a delightful departure from some aspiring star-kids who throw attitude even before the public passes verdict on them. But the laughs do not come easy: a week before the release of his debut film and home production Love Story 2050, Harman has all the stresses of a newcomer and barely a second to spare in the promotional blitz of a 55-crore home production and his personal promotion.

And the new hottie from the industry unwinds with rare candour. Excerpts from an interview:

Question Dads launching sons are nothing new in filmdom, but barely anyone does it now because of the spiraling economics of the day. And your father has staked his all in an extraordinary debut for you.
Answer Absolutely true. A film like Love Story 2050 needed foreign locations, visual and digital effects, grandeur and a canvas that made it very steep budget-wise, and dad's last film Main Aisa Hi Hoon has not done well.
But then, to begin with, dad (producer-director and now writer Harry Baweja of Dilwale and Qayamat fame) wanted to make such a film and it so happened that I fit the role and was going to start out as actor. He had written the story at the turn of the decade, but since our banner had to be established and we needed basic security like a house and money, he made all those hardcore commercial films.
But, yes, I agree that he could have made the same kind of film for my debut and played safe, but that's where he also thought it would be the perfect launch for me and had the confidence both in my abilities and in his own skills.

Question Were there troubled moments?
Answer Yes, so many stressful moments were there. But we stuck together as a family - my mom (Pammi) was associate producer and my younger sister Rowena was chief assistant director and has co-written the script. Though dad has given so many successful films, the last film's non-success counted against him and there were times when we did not have the money to shoot the next day - but we sailed through somehow because we were determined and united.

Question What kind of relationship do you share with dad?
Answer Dad's a typical Punjabi father! He and I can have our share of fun and be buddies and he's no dictator. But suddenly a point comes when I realize that I cannot cross a certain line - he is dad and I am his son! (Laughs) On the sets I never went pretentious and addressed him as "Sir". He was - as he is at home - always "Papa" to me.

Question What is Priyanka Chopra to you?
Answer We are very good friends.

Question That's it?
Answer(Laughs) She is a very close friend. And hats off to Priyanka because when she saw she had a great script, she had no ego about the fact that we had first signed Kareena Kapoor and shot with her for a week. Priyanka is very special.

QuestionWhat's with your nasty comments on Kareena Kapoor?
AnswerI never said anything like that. Kareena and Hrithik Roshan - with whom I am unnecessarily compared, for he is a superstar and a dancer without parallel - are all people I know from childhood days. We are all part of the industry.

QuestionYou have signed up for four films. That must be quite a kick for someone who has not had a single release.
AnswerThe greatest high for me is not the number of films but that I have got great scripts and filmmakers, like Sanjay Leela Bhansali with Bachchan-saab as my co-star in Chenab Gandhi, Ashutosh Gowariker in What's Your Raashee?, a fabulous script like Ajit Pal's Victory, which is Manmohan Shetty's first film as a producer and Anees Bazmee's film with Boney Kapoor.

QuestionAnd how would you rate yourself as an actor?
AnswerI am okay for a first film I guess. (Laughs) Do you know that I was happy with the earlier scenes I shot for Love Story 2050 but not about the later ones, and I told dad about it and said that I thought that we should re-shoot some of them.
And dad refused to re-shoot! He said that he had been observing me and found that I was growing as an actor throughout, and that was the reason why I was not happy as I went along, because my own bar was growing. He said that that if we began to re-shoot it would never end as I would keep feeling that way all the time and then the film would release only in 2050! (Laughs) He reminded me that any actor got a certain 'discount' from an audience in his first film and if they even thought that I was 'not bad' for a first film, I will have made it!

QuestionBut when did you realize that you wanted to be an actor and nothing else?
AnswerAt 16, midway through my Hotel Management! I told dad that it wasn't working for me. He was okay, but said, 'It's not going to be so easy for you, son.'
So I began to assist dad and then went off to USA to do simultaneous courses at the UCLA in Santa Monica and the Lee Strasborg Academy. In the first, I learnt comprehensively about filmmaking and all its aspects including acting, while the second was about theatre. I was there for two years. Then I came back and again assisted dad.

Question But wasn't Hindi cinema a completely different ball-game?
AnswerHonestly, there is not much difference in the learning. You have to adapt what you have learned to our cinema. But there are things we must learn from them, like their way of planning everything so well. As for the acting grammar, they are very real out there. It is rightly said that in Hollywood you act whereas in Indian cinema you project! When I told dad that I could not relate to the singing and dancing, he looked at me and said, 'Hey boy, you are treading on dangerous lines there. Then you will be stuck in L.A. You have to do Indian cinema!' And that's when I came back!

Question And have your views been modified since?
AnswerOh, completely! I even took part in the music sittings with Anu Malik! I also learnt dancing. Dad was right, you know.
